The novel "The Black Matter" by Blake Croatch is one of the best science fiction novels I have read in my life and undoubtedly its effects will remain with me for a long time.. this novel captivated me from its first pages until the end.. and I even directed my view to an author I will try to acquire all his works and watch all the series and films adapted from his novels. It is a science fiction novel without a doubt, but there is a very large human side.. come with me to this black box first so you can understand me well.. come on, give me your hand.. I see the vein now.. you won't feel anything.. my hand is very light.. do you know what the capital of the Faroe Islands is? You don't know that there is a country called the Faroe Islands at all? It's okay, it's Torshavn, and I have finished giving you the injection, enough with the out-of-context talk, and let's return to our novel's topic. Our story begins with Jason Dissen, who studies physics.. a somewhat boring branch.. Jason, who suddenly found himself in another world far from his wife Daniela and his son Charlie.. a world that does not belong to him.. how did that happen? Did I mention it? He was kidnapped! On his way home, that masked man in military uniform kidnapped him.. to find himself in a strange world.. has he gone mad? Has he lost his mind? Or is he just a tumor? And gradually, Jason understood that he had been exiled outside his world to another world where Daniela was not his wife.. what is this, truly absurd? Daniela? Not my wife! Not mine! I can't hold her in my hands! Unfortunately, no, Jason! In this strange world, Jason meets Amanda, who helps him understand.. and I wish he hadn't understood.. It seems that one of his copies from parallel worlds transferred him to this world.. to live in his own world! But why? Certainly for her.. for Daniela. "I got everything I wanted in my life, except you. And you were living inside me. We could have been.. that's the reason.." Jason embarks on an experience he will never forget, no matter how long he lives.. he will go on all possible journeys to all alternate worlds in hopes of luck to return to his world.. and at this part, I expected his return to his world to be easy and simple, but the writer honestly surprised me.. and this part was wonderful, exciting, and very sad.. Jason had to see Daniela die twice, Daniela not even existing, Daniela not knowing him at all.. and in the worst despair, he thought about settling in any world where Daniela was available.. but he couldn't do that.. why? Because she is not the version of Daniela he knew.. deep down, he knows very well that someone stole his place in his house and in his wife's arms and his son's.. and this greatly angers him! How did the life of this university lecturer turn into a hell of anger like this? How could any of his characters or choices make him go through all that.. "I'm simply destroyed.. broken, terrified, on the verge of wanting all this to end.." And when luck was on his side, and he returned to his world, he found many surprises there.. which I will not reveal here, enough what I have revealed.. and suffice it to say that the last third of the novel is the most thrilling and enjoyable I have read in my life.. Then we come to the most important aspect of the novel.. Jason's relationship with Daniela.. before the accident, yes, their relationship was good but not complete.. why does he fight and struggle so much for her? Because he knew he loved her.. he knew that just because she was present, she was available.. and as soon as he lost her.. he knew he couldn't live without her.. without his Daniela. "Every moment.. every breath.. carries a choice.. but life is incomplete, we make the wrong choices. That's why we end up living in a state of eternal regret, and is there anything worse than that? I created something that can indeed erase regret" and here is the most important part of the novel.. which will make you think about all your choices.. were they right or wrong? Should you have left that job or not? Should you have loved or hated? What if? And a large circle of possibilities.. but you will discover that all those choices you made are what made you you! The total of the choices you made is you.. you should be satisfied and content with it.. maybe I was wrong in some.. but I was right in many and learned from my mistake.. and that is enough. Jason (2) to erase his regret about choosing Daniela, made that black box and kidnapped only one of his copies so he could be with her.. but he didn't even try with Daniela in his world.. who was already waiting for any word or action to reunite.. just like with the original Jason.. did he fear facing her after abandoning her? So he chose the solution that involved no confrontation! Only love's despair and fear of rejection made Jason 2 do all that. The ending sequence, I felt for a moment that the writer put himself in a real dilemma.. how will he get out of all those difficulties? And honestly, the way he got out was convincing and completely satisfying me. In conclusion.. the novel "The Black Matter" is definitely the greatest novel I have read this year and one of the greatest novels I have ever read in my life.. I will recommend it to everyone I know and don't know! It truly deserves five stars.. and I will return again with Blake Croatch and his charming style of narration, lively and impactful character dialogues, and his wonderful expressions.. there are many quotes that attracted me deeply in this novel. "We all live day by day completely unaware of the fact that we are part of a bigger and stranger reality than we can even imagine."
