The most beautiful word

When the Icelanders, in a survey, were asked to choose the most beautiful word in their language, they did not hesitate to choose the noblest profession name "midwife," which in Icelandic literally means "mother of light"... In this exquisite novel, a midwife traces the path that a human being takes from the darkness of the womb to the darkness of the grave, trying to uncover the mystery of mysteries, the most wondrous things, the light... It is a novel of extreme boundaries, a novel about existence and non-existence, about human fragility, about animal superiority, about our temporary existence and the flicker of life that we were granted between two darknesses... Who can better elucidate the dimensions of life than the woman whose hands bring us into the world? And who can question the essence of light more deeply than the author who belongs to the darkest part of the world, where darkness prevails for months, and where every glimmer of light is a moment for reflection and joy!
