Product description
An old picture is the second novel in chronological order of events in what is known as the trilogy of the House of Spirits, the connected-separated trilogy of the Chilean writer Isabel Allende. However, it is the last in terms of writing and publishing date, as Allende wrote it to be the link between Daughter of Fortune and The House of Spirits. The novel was issued in a new elegant edition translated by Saleh Allami by Dar Al-Adab as part of distinguished translated novels, including reprints of Allende's old works as well as her more recent novels.
Summary of the novel An Old Picture
The heroine of the novel, Aurora Del Valle, suffers from a severe psychological shock that erases the memories of the first five years of her life, and when she finds herself forced to face loneliness and the betrayal of the man she loved, she decides to seek to uncover the secrets of her past. Aurora is one of those brave women whom Isabel Allende masterfully wrote about in her novels Daughter of Fortune and The House of Spirits.
Quotes from the book An Old Picture
Memory is imagination. We choose the most dazzling and the darkest parts of it, ignoring what embarrasses us, and thus weave the broad carpet of our lives.
I write to unveil the old secrets of my childhood, to define my identity, and to create my own legend, for what we ultimately possess in our hands is the memory we have woven; each person chooses the shade of color with which to tell their own story.
I was stunned to realize that the world, in her absence, continued to turn and no one missed her.
