Professor of history leaves the land of Africa at a scientific symposium in Yemen, and finds there an opportunity to meet one of the Shiite occultists and understand what was obscure to him from a treasure of antiquity he found in an old grave, so the shock from the buried secret is enormous: it is the psalms of the Sheikh of the Mountain, the dweller of the eagle's nest, Hassan al-Sabbah, and his rulings, teachings, and commandments! And so the professor, digging up the grave, becomes a fugitive pursued by those to burn the cursed treasure and others seeking the inheritance of their sacred master, and he insists on his treasure because he saw in it a national wealth, exploring behind it regions submerged in darkness from the history of the most dangerous sect he knew from the medieval era. And the journey of conflicting emotions begins: the joy of the discoverer decoding the mystic symbols of the psalms, and the terror of the fleeing man as the hashishers and police pursue him. It is a novel about digging into the history of a sectarian group woven around stories that sometimes did not lack exaggeration, especially the figure of its founder Hassan al-Sabbah, the steadfast at the castle of Alamut, who plans to spread his doctrine with the power of his eloquence and the zeal of his trained assassins. The movement ended long ago, but the novel announces the resurrection of the Hashshashin and recalls the eras of sectarian wars, delving with artistic vision into the past to reweave chapters of a history extending over a thousand years, connecting the past with the present, revealing the main reasons for the absence of the Renaissance in the East.
