Product description
The chicken that dreamed of flying is a folk Korean literature novel by the most famous novelist "Sun - Mi Hwang" in which she tells the story of a chicken named Epsak, who is no longer satisfied with laying her eggs on demand, those eggs that are taken away from her to be sold in the market. She dreamed of her future every morning while contemplating the coop where the other animals roam freely. Therefore, Epsak made a plan to escape to the wild to hatch one of the eggs she lays herself. Epsak succeeds in escaping from the chicken cage and begins searching for her dream, which is to have her own chick "Chicklet" that she raises and keeps. To achieve this goal, she heads to the wilderness, but then she must face a struggle with many unexpected difficulties. Nevertheless, she did not give up on her dream. One day, Epsak finds a stray egg, lies on it, and waits for it to hatch. But she quickly realizes that this egg belongs to a wild duck, not a chicken. When the egg hatches, the chicken and the little duck "Green Topp" begin facing reality, which is that they are different in everything, especially in appearance... After some time, "Green Topp" flies away, leaving "Epsak" behind on the ground. Epsak remains watching her daughter with pride, and a feeling of sadness overcomes her... But she must face what is even harder: a female "Barn Owl" is lurking to catch her! The story ends tragically, telling the reader that even in the animal world, the price of freedom is high... very high.
This novel is suitable to be a hymn to freedom, individual character, and motherhood. It presents the story of a heroine who rebels against a world governed by coop traditions. The chicken that dreamed of flying is a novel with universal dimensions, opening a window on Korea, and capturing the hearts of millions of readers. This novel, due to the diversity of its animal characters—chicken, duck, rooster, dog, and barn owl—reminds us of classic stories in English literature, such as "Animal Farm" and "Charlotte's Web."
This first Arabic edition of Sun - Mi Hwang's (fantasy) novel in our time beautifully highlights an unforgettable personal journey in world literature, adorned with its special illustrations.
