Product description
The Grandstream GXW4248 is the largest GXW4200 model, connecting 48 analog lines to an IP PBX through two 50-pin Telco connectors and a Gigabit port. It is designed for hotels and hospitals whose phone wiring ends on a distribution frame in the equipment room.
====
The Grandstream GXW4248 is the largest model in the GXW4200 series, putting 48 analog lines onto an IP PBX from a single 1U box. There are no RJ11 jacks on the front: every line leaves through two Telco connectors at the back and runs to the distribution frame. That makes it a fit for hotels, hospitals and compounds with an existing phone wiring plant that ends in the equipment room.
Grandstream GXW4248 key specifications
The GXW4248 differs from the rest of the series in cabling, power and size; firmware and features are the same.
- 48 FXS lines through two 50-pin Telco (RJ21) connectors.
- Two Telco cables included in the box.
- One 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 port.
- 24V 6.25A adapter, 150W maximum.
- 440 x 255 x 44 mm, 3.36 kg.
Why Telco connectors instead of RJ11 jacks?
Forty-eight separate cables on the front of one box make a crowded rack that is hard to service. With the GXW4248, two Telco cables run from the gateway to the frame, and from there the lines follow the building's existing wiring to each room. If you need RJ11 jacks to plug nearby phones in directly, the smaller models in the series are the better choice. Unlike those models, the GXW4248 box includes both Telco cables.
More power for 48 lines
Ringing dozens of phones at once takes power, so this model ships with a 150W 24V adapter instead of the 12V unit used by its smaller siblings. It has over-voltage and over-current protection to ITU-T K.21, and Grandstream recommends grounding and surge protection.
Calling features and management
Each line has its own SIP account, backed by 4 SIP profiles and a failover server the gateway switches to if the primary drops. It handles T.38 fax, caller ID, transfer, three-way conferencing and hunting groups that put a department behind one number. Manage it through the web UI, SSH or GDMS, with SRTP and TLS encryption and secure boot.
Where it fits in Saudi Arabia
- Large hotels in Makkah and Madinah moving room phones to a new IP PBX without rewiring.
- Hospitals distributing ward and nursing-station phones from a central frame.
- Towers and residential compounds with an internal phone in every unit.
- Universities and large government buildings.
Compatibility
The gateway registers to any SIP PBX via RFC 3261, and Grandstream lists zero-configuration provisioning with its UCM series. Several gateways can sit on the same PBX as line counts grow; a 90-room hotel, for example, would use two GXW4248 units, with each room keeping its own extension.
GXW4248 or GXW4232?
The GXW4232 has 32 front RJ11 jacks plus two Telco connectors, a 12V 5A adapter and a 185 mm deep chassis. The GXW4248 reaches 48 lines through Telco only, with a 24V adapter and a 255 mm deep body. Pick the GXW4248 when you have more than 32 phones and their wiring already ends on a frame.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the GXW4248 have RJ11 ports?
No. All 48 lines run through two 50-pin Telco connectors on the rear, and two Telco cables come in the box.
What power adapter does it use?
A 24V 6.25A adapter rated at 150W maximum, unlike the 12V adapter on the GXW4216, GXW4224 and GXW4232.
Does it work with a Grandstream UCM?
Yes. It works with any SIP PBX, and Grandstream lists zero-configuration provisioning with UCM PBXs.
