Grandstream GWN7661E In-Wall Wi-Fi 6 Access Point with 4 Gigabit Ports

Product description

The Grandstream GWN7661E is an in-wall AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 access point with 3 Gbps of combined throughput and support for up to 256 clients. Four Gigabit ports, two of them with PoE output, make it a natural fit for hotel rooms, apartments, student housing and offices.

====

The Grandstream GWN7661E installs into the wall like an outlet plate, putting Wi-Fi 6 and wired ports right inside the room where they are used. Instead of one corridor AP pushing signal through walls into ten rooms, each room gets its own AP with 3 Gbps of combined throughput and support for up to 256 clients. Grandstream targets it at offices, hotels and apartments, and at voice-over-Wi-Fi with its own Wi-Fi IP phones.

Grandstream GWN7661E ports explained

This is what sets it apart from the rest of the series. There are four Gigabit ports:

  • One uplink port that takes both data and power over PoE or PoE+.
  • Two PSE ports that supply up to 6 W each to PoE devices.
  • One standard port for a smart TV, PC or game console.

Room phone and TV from one wall plate

In a hotel room, plug an IP phone into one of the PSE ports and it runs without its own adapter, provided it draws within 6 W. The smart TV takes the standard port, and the guest's phone and laptop use Wi-Fi. All of it rides on a single Ethernet run from a PoE switch in the network room.

Wi-Fi 6 performance

  • 5GHz up to 2402 Mbps with 3x3:2 and channels up to 160 MHz.
  • 2.4GHz up to 573.5 Mbps with 2x2:2.
  • Up to 100 m coverage, plenty for a room or suite and the space around it.
  • 32 SSIDs to keep guest Wi-Fi apart from internal systems.

Power and installation

Maximum consumption is 25 W, including what the unit passes to devices on its PSE ports, so plan on an 802.3at PoE+ switch. The unit measures 135 x 86 x 38.5 mm and weighs 241 g; a mounting kit comes in the box. It operates from 0°C to 45°C indoors.

Typical deployments in Saudi Arabia

  • Hotels in Makkah, Madinah and Riyadh: an AP in every room, with ports for the room phone and TV.
  • Serviced apartments and residential buildings: solid Wi-Fi per unit without a separate router.
  • Student and staff housing: many devices in rooms side by side.
  • Private offices: Wi-Fi plus wired ports for a PC and an IP phone in the office wall.

Management and security

An embedded controller manages up to 50 Grandstream APs. Larger hotels can run hundreds of rooms from the free GDMS Networking cloud with no AP limit, or from GWN Manager on a local server. WPA3, secure boot, a unique certificate and a random default password come standard.

GWN7661E or GWN7660E?

The radios are close: 2x2:2 on 2.4GHz, 3x3:2 on 5GHz, 3 Gbps and up to 256 clients on both. Form factor and ports set them apart. The GWN7661E goes in the wall with four Gigabit ports (two with PoE out), covers up to 100 m and draws up to 25 W. The GWN7660E mounts on the ceiling with one port, covers up to 175 m and draws 12.95 W. Use the GWN7661E for individual rooms and the GWN7660E for open areas.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the GWN7661E power an IP phone?

Yes. Its two PSE ports supply up to 6 W each, enough for a small PoE device such as some IP phones that draw within that limit.

How many Ethernet ports does it have?

Four Gigabit ports: a PoE-powered uplink, two PoE output ports and one standard port for a TV or PC.

What PoE switch does it need?

It accepts 802.3af and 802.3at; with devices attached it can draw up to 25 W, so an 802.3at PoE+ port is the safer choice.
