Product description
The Grandstream GWN7664E is an indoor Wi-Fi 6 access point with 4x4:4 radios on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz, 6 Gbps of combined wireless throughput and two 2.5G ports. With room for 512 concurrent clients, it is aimed at halls, schools, hotel lobbies and other crowded spaces.
====
The Grandstream GWN7664E is the Wi-Fi 6 access point for rooms that fill up: large meeting rooms, schools, hotel lobbies and event halls. It runs 4x4:4 on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz for 6 Gbps of combined wireless throughput, supports up to 512 concurrent clients and covers up to 175 meters. Two 2.5G ports on the back make sure the wired side can carry that load.
Grandstream GWN7664E: four streams on every band
Many APs put their best radio on 5GHz and leave 2.4GHz at 2x2. The GWN7664E gives both bands four spatial streams with MU-MIMO, which matters where older laptops, printers and IoT devices still connect on 2.4GHz.
- 5GHz: up to 4804 Mbps on 802.11ax, with 160MHz channels.
- 2.4GHz: up to 1147 Mbps on 802.11ax.
- 8 internal antennas, four per band.
- 32 SSIDs, each with its own client settings, captive portal and bandwidth limits.
Why 512 clients matters
In a wedding hall or lecture theater, nearly everyone carries a phone, and many also bring a smartwatch or laptop. Uplink and downlink OFDMA lets one channel serve several devices in the same moment instead of making each wait its turn, and beamforming steers the signal toward each client. You end up with fewer APs on the ceiling for the same crowd.
A practical example: an event hall with 300 guests, each carrying at least one phone. A 256-client AP hits its limit quickly, while the GWN7664E still leaves headroom for extra devices and for the hall's own screens and AV systems.
Dual 2.5G ports and PoE+
The GWN7664E has two 2.5G Ethernet ports, which Grandstream rates at 5 Gbps of aggregate wired capacity. It is powered by 802.3at PoE+ and draws up to 21 W, so check that your switch ports deliver PoE+ and budget the wattage accordingly. Eight GWN7664E units, for example, need at least 168 W of PoE budget on their own. A Kensington lock slot helps protect units installed in public areas.
Typical Saudi deployments
- Wedding and event halls where hundreds of guests connect at once.
- Schools and universities with a tablet or laptop per student.
- Hotel lobbies in Makkah and Madinah during Umrah and Hajj peaks.
- Open-plan offices and call centers with dozens of staff in one space.
Management and security
The embedded controller manages up to 50 Grandstream APs on site. GDMS Networking adds free cloud management with no AP limit, and GWN Manager runs on your own server for up to 3,000 APs. Each unit has secure boot, a unique certificate, a random default password and WPA3 support.
GWN7664E, GWN7664ELR or GWN7662?
The GWN7664ELR is the outdoor twin with the same 4x4:4 dual-band radio and 512-client limit, but it reaches up to 300 m, swaps one RJ45 for a 2.5G SFP fiber port, draws 24 W and operates from -30 to 60°C. The GWN7662 serves 256 clients, uses 2x2:2 on 2.4GHz, pairs one 2.5G port with a gigabit port and draws 16 W. Choose the GWN7664E for crowded indoor spaces and the GWN7662 for everyday offices.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many devices can the GWN7664E handle?
Up to 512 concurrent clients per Grandstream; real-world performance depends on how many devices are active and what they are doing.
Will a standard PoE switch power it?
It needs 802.3at PoE+ and draws up to 21 W, so use a PoE+ switch that delivers that per port.
Can I install the GWN7664E outdoors?
No. It is an indoor unit rated 0 to 50°C. For open areas, the GWN7664ELR has the same radio in an outdoor housing.
