Mananasi again
We had an enjoyable unforgettable experience with this distinguished harvest which has become an icon at Sweil Roastery! This harvest comes from an altitude of up to 1900 meters above sea level, in fertile land ideal for growing coffee cherries in Uganda, specifically in Kinja Kianza district.
The story of Mananasi begins when the “Great Lex Coffee” team conducted a unique social experiment worth telling; the team decided to improve coffee quality by working in an area known for producing low-quality Arabica coffee at a cheap price compared to similar regions in Uganda. The team sought to develop a special program to train farmers; the training team aims to develop farmers into community leaders and provide intensive and comprehensive courses in agricultural engineering, processing methods, and harvesting.
Then, 35 members of small farmers are appointed for each lead farmer, and these small groups are rewarded financially based on the unit; the higher the coffee quality, the higher the group's wage. The lead farmer receives an additional reward for the doubled training he provides to his colleagues as an incentive and assurance of the knowledge he transfers to them efficiently during training.
The Red Cherry program is the next phase of quality improvement, gradually ongoing over recent years.
This program primarily focuses on quality first and foremost; guiding farmers to pick only ripe cherries, then drying the coffee on raised beds. After the coffee is fully dried, it is sent to the processing station to remove any potential defects, ensuring a clean and pure cup of coffee.
