Product description
Composition: Each tablet contains: 30 mg calcium carbonate
Specification: Calcium is a mineral required by all animals as an essential part of their diet, along with other elements such as phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, etc. Phosphorus, along with a deficiency of vitamin D, is very common in caged parrots. Calcium compounds are familiar in nature as relatively solid minerals such as chalk, limestone, cuttlebone, eggshells, and shellfish shells. The mineral present in the body is incorporated into the skeletal structure and in the production of eggshells — perhaps its familiar appearance, but it also has an important unseen function in the solution present in the bloodstream in proper muscle contraction. The structure of bones and shells depends on a mixture of calcium and phosphorus in the correct ratio; absorption and assimilation of calcium are also related to the availability of vitamin D3. If the bird has enough calcium, the symptoms that appear can be many and variable, depending on the age and sex of the bird and the degree of deficiency. Low blood calcium level (measurable by blood samples from the bird’s vein) is called HYPOCALCAEMIA. Conversely, too much calcium would be hypercalcemia. A calcium deficiency in an adult breeding hen may initially lead to infertility — meaning the hen cannot develop eggs. If she produces eggs, they may have soft shells, making laying difficult and less likely to survive. The next stage is egg binding, when the egg gets stuck in the oviduct. This is a common problem, and it may also be caused by the bird’s immaturity, post-laying fatigue, or changes in cold and humid weather after good weather. However, as mentioned earlier, calcium is necessary for proper muscle contraction, and a mild deficiency means the oviduct cannot contract properly to expel the egg.
