Product description

If you are conducting experiments on monitoring fleets, or scientific experiments at high altitudes, or any project requiring device location identification, the MKR GPS Shield will provide you with the functions you need, and it is ready to use immediately! The MKR GPS Shield relies on the u-blox SAM-M8Q GNSS module (Global Navigation Satellite System). The device is designed for use on MKR boards, but thanks to the Eslov connector, it can also be connected to any board equipped with this type of connector using a cable. This unit is designed to work with multiple positioning services simultaneously. It receives and processes signals from GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo. It connects to Arduino boards either via a serial interface when used with connectors and mounted on an MKR board, or through the I2C interface with the dedicated Eslov cable included as a package. Configuration and backup commands The GPS unit can be configured via special commands. A built-in battery holder has been included to save configurations made through the software. This is useful when changing the GPS operating mode to 1g, which is common in high-altitude experiments, where specific settings different from the device’s default are required.
