Product description

Grandmother Fatoum remembers how she was attached to the Eid sheep when she was seven years old, and she tells her grandchildren Maher and Salma about her adventures and takes them and the young reader into the atmosphere of her childhood in the village. Parent and teacher guide: Celebrating holidays is an important part of every child's life. Among these holidays is Eid al-Adha, which occurs after performing the pilgrimage ritual every year. The story deals with the shock that a child may face when they learn that the sheep that became their friend will be sacrificed and cooked and served on the Eid lunch table. Fatoum is attached to the sheep against her parents' wishes, which causes her pain when the family decides to sacrifice it. The grandfather explains to Fatoum the wisdom of offering sacrifices when he tells her the story of Prophet Ishmael (peace be upon him). Then he decides not to slaughter her sheep and to benefit from it in another way. The story is narrated through the grandmother recalling the events and telling her grandchildren, and her illustrations show the way of life of the Palestinian villagers and their beautiful embroidered clothes. Teachers can use the story when the pilgrimage season approaches to introduce children to the wisdom behind sacrifices and to teach them about the authentic customs and traditions our ancestors followed, fostering in them a sense of kinship and love for others.
