The Book of the Intelligent is a book about the anecdotes of the intelligent and the humorous stories of their news, authored by the Hafiz Ibn al-Jawzi (508 AH - 597 AH). The author based his book on thirty-three chapters, including: the virtue of the mind, its nature, and its place; the intellect, understanding, and intelligence; signs of intelligence; stories from the insight of the prophets; about the previous nations; about the Prophet Muhammad; the companions; the caliphs; the ministers; the judges; the scholars and ascetics; scholars of Arabic; using intelligence for purposes; those affected by their intelligence; precautions of the intelligent; the insight of women; children; poets; warriors; and the wise among the mad. Ibn al-Jawzi said in the introduction of his book: I liked to compile a book about the stories of the intelligent whose insight and sharpness of mind are strengthened by their innate core, and there are three purposes in that. The first is to know their ranks by mentioning their conditions; the second is to stimulate the minds of the listeners, and it has been proven that seeing and associating with the wise benefits the insightful; the third is to discipline those who admire their own opinion when they hear stories of those who find it difficult to catch up with them.
