This is a book we put in the science of morphology for first-year students at Al-Azhar University, and the science of morphology is a noble science that students of Arabic and researchers in its dictionaries need. And for the past scholars who have written about it, there are worthy books of appreciation, but they do not suit the minds of students and their first encounter with scholarly life, due to the richness of its material, the long passage of time between us and its authors, its tendency towards brevity in many of its discussions, and its lack of many evidences that clarify its issues and fall under its rules. So we exerted effort to simplify these issues, and pave the way to reach the goal of this science, and to remove the obstacles that prevent benefiting from it, so that it fits the environment in which we live, and agrees with the minds of the young modern generation inexperienced in childhood play. And another reason is that scholarly life is progressing steadily, and standing still causes it to become sterile and deprives it of all noble characteristics of life, and renewal, if impossible in the same material, there are in its opposition what fills this deficiency, and what attracts hearts to it and gathers souls around it. And it may be in the interest of science itself to overlook some of its issues, even temporarily, until the souls are ready to receive it and embrace it. And the most dangerous thing for Arabic is to receive events with such superficiality and ignorance, thinking that science is only complete with such things, and that its edifice rises only upon them, and Allah knows that this repels and turns people away from it, killing hearts and bodies alike. So if we want to be serious in our matters and preserve our language, let us make it easy for the young to overcome its difficulties and remove its obstacles, so that it becomes upright for those seeking it, and so that its children find in its folds the wonderful literature and beneficial knowledge, and they turn to the language of the Qur'an, which expanded Islamic civilization in its most glorious ages, rejoicing in it, sincere to it, and defending it.
