The Cave Novel by José Saramago, translation by Saleh Alamani

The man who drives the small enclosed truck is named Sebriano Algar, his profession is a potter, and he is sixty-four years old, although his appearance at first glance suggests he is younger. The man sitting next to him is his son-in-law, named Mercial Gacho, who has not yet reached puberty. However, his facial features do not allow anyone to estimate that he is that age. And attached to each of their names, as we noticed, is a strange nickname, they are unaware of its origin, meaning, or reason.
