Moxidectin is indicated for treating infections caused by sensitive strains of: - Gastrointestinal nematodes: • Haemonchus contortus (adults and L3) • Ostertagia (Teladorsagia) circcincta (adults and L3, which inhibits larvae) • Trichostrongylus axei (adults) • Trichostrongylus colubriformis (adults and L3) • Nematodirus spp. (adults) • Cooperia curtisi (macmasteri) (adults) • Cooperia punctata (adults) • Oesophagostomum columbianum (L3) • Chabertia ovina (adults) - Respiratory nematodes: • Dictyocaulus filaria (adults) - Larval stages of dipteran flies: • Oestrus ovis: L1, L2, L3 - Many other parasites: • Psoroptes ovis Experiments have shown that moxidectin is effective against certain strains of Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia (Teladorsagia) circcincta, and Trichostrongylus spp. resistant to benzimidazoles. The product has a persistent effect and protects sheep for a certain period against infection or re-infection by the following parasites for the specified duration: • Ostertagia (Teladorsagia) circumcincta • Haemonchus contortus • Trichostrongylus colubriformis • Oestrus ovis Duration: 97, 111, 144, 160 days The durations of effectiveness for other parasite species not listed above have not been determined. Therefore, re-infection of animals in contaminated pastures with other parasites remains possible before the minimum withdrawal period of 44 days as specified for certain species.
