My tree, the wonderful orange tree - Josée Mauro

Who is this child whom everyone calls the little devil and describes as a cat of the gutters? And what child is this who carries in his heart a singing bird? "My Tree, the Wonderful Orange Tree" by the writer Jose Mauro de Vasconcelos, a work studied in Brazilian schools and recommended by teachers in French institutes for their students to read... It is an emotional and human work narrated by a child poet who is not more than five years old... A work that does not tell a fairy tale or only the dreams of children in Brazil, but also recounts the adventures of the writer in his childhood, the adventures of the child who learned to read at the age of four without a teacher, the child who carries in his heart a bird and in his head a devil whispering ideas that lead him into trouble with adults... This is a sweet novel, as sweet as the sap of a sweet orange fruit... A human story that describes the innocence a child's heart can hold, and introduces us to the innate spirit of the poet... The story of a child who carries the blood of Brazil's indigenous people, a child who every morning steals a flower from the garden of a wealthy person for his teacher... and he asks with the utmost innocence: Did God not give flowers to all people?
