I believe in life and people, and I see myself obliged to follow their high ideals as long as I believe they are the truth; for to turn away from that is cowardice and escape. I also see myself obliged to revolt against their false ideals; for to turn away from that is betrayal! And this is the meaning of eternal revolution. "Al-Sukariya" is the third and final part of "The Trilogy," most of its events take place in the neighborhood of "Al-Sukariya," and it marks the beginning of the third generation, the generation of grandchildren. Naguib Mahfouz presents through this generation the political movement and the intellectual state of the country during World War II and what followed. This is manifested through the two brothers, "Ahmed" and "Abdel Moneim," sons of "Khadija." While "Ahmed" adopts communist ideology, "Abdel Moneim" belongs to the Muslim Brotherhood. As for the third grandson, "Radwan," circumstances lead him to meet one of the corrupt politicians, with whom he develops a close relationship, and he is appointed after graduation as a secretary to the minister. In this part, the main role continues to be for "Kamal," who falls into a state of confusion and raises many philosophical and existential questions. As for "Aisha," she is the vivid image of the fluctuations of fate; death changes her condition from joy and beauty to weakness and pallor.
