Today the world has changed, and after he enjoyed a status that rulers do not have, the police are now chasing him on charges of deception, so reaching him is no longer easy, but be patient and trust that you will reach him. Mahfouz collected in this collection fourteen diverse stories, all of which carry the essence of life, death, and humanity, and carry many questions he remained preoccupied with throughout his life, especially his existential question about the existence of God: is He a reality or a myth? The story of "Al-Zabalaoui" was the most expressive of this question, which he ultimately answered as an confirmed truth, through the journey of a young man searching for "Al-Zabalaoui" who symbolizes God, and asking people about him, they reply that he is the truth, and that one must strive and search until "Al-Zabalaoui" comes to him in his sleep, reassuring him of His existence. In the rest of the stories, we see Mahfouz's world, which began to contemplate "the world of God" with eyes aware of the inner realities.
