Eluard, with his world in poetry, represents a symbol and a distinctive mark in global poetic existence in addition to the French one. He is one of the pioneers of the surrealist movement in France and the world. His life was intertwined with that movement for periods, as he was a representative of that generation that saw in the storm that swept Europe in general and France in particular a reason to reject all inherited values. He believed that initially everything must be demolished and everything re-examined regarding existence, beliefs, ideas, and ways of art and expression in poetry, writing, or storytelling in general, and art overall, concerning areas of beauty open to the mind and senses and shared languages between the presenter and the presented or the artist and his audience regarding fluctuation.
Paul Eluard is considered the first to participate in the liberation of the first collective surrealist work, titled "The Corpse." The "corpse" here referred to the French writer Anatole France. He joined the French Communist Party in 1926, and during this period, he expressed his life in a unique way. Eluard had contributed to shaping the complex history of the relationship between the surrealist movement and the Communist Party, and he remained aligned with surrealism throughout the period in which it served the revolution. After severing his ties with the Communist Party, he remained a surrealist poet.
