Product description
Tacrolimus Monohydrate 0.1% ointment What are the indications for using Tacrolimus ointment: Tacrolimus Monohydrate is an immunomodulator. Tacrolimus ointment is used to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis in adults who do not respond adequately or cannot tolerate traditional treatments such as topical corticosteroids, and in children (aged two years and above) who have failed to respond adequately to traditional treatments such as topical corticosteroids. Once the moderate to severe atopic dermatitis is cleared or almost cleared after up to 6 weeks of flare treatment, and if you experience recurrent episodes (i.e., 4 or more per year), it may be possible to prevent flare-ups again or prolong the flare-free period using Tacrolimus ointment twice weekly. In atopic dermatitis, an overreaction of the immune system in the skin leads to dermatitis (itching, redness, and dryness). Tacrolimus changes the abnormal immune response and relieves dermatitis and itching. Do not use Tacrolimus ointment: If you are allergic to Tacrolimus or any other ingredients of this medicine or macrolide antibiotics. Warnings and precautions: Talk to your doctor before using Tacrolimus ointment: If you have liver failure. If you have skin diseases. If you have any malignant tumors in the skin. If you have a weakened immune system. If you have swelling in the lymph nodes at the start of treatment. Possible side effects: Like all medicines, this drug can cause side effects, although they do not occur in everyone. These side effects include: burning and itching, redness, feeling of warmth, pain, increased skin sensitivity (especially to heat and cold), tingling skin, rash, local skin infection regardless of the specific cause including but not limited to: inflamed or infected hair follicles, cold sores, generalized herpes simplex infections. Facial redness or skin irritation after drinking alcohol is also common. Acne. Injuries at the application site twice weekly have been reported in children and adults. Herpes, a superficial bacterial skin infection that usually produces blisters or ulcers on the skin, has been reported in children. Rosacea (facial redness), rosacea-like dermatitis, hyperpigmentation (presence of flat brown spots on the skin), edema at the application site, and eye herpes infection have been reported during post-marketing. Other medications and Tacrolimus ointment: Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used, or might use any other medicines. You can use moisturizers and emollients during treatment with Tacrolimus ointment but these should not be used within two hours of applying Tacrolimus ointment. The use of Tacrolimus ointment with other topical products or during oral corticosteroids (such as corticosteroids) or immune-modulating drugs has not been studied. Usage instructions: Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Apply Tacrolimus ointment as a thin layer on the affected areas of your skin. Tacrolimus ointment can be used on most parts of the body, including the face, neck, and skin folds of elbows and knees. Avoid using the ointment inside your nose, mouth, or eyes. If the ointment contacts any of these areas, it should be completely wiped off and/or rinsed with water. Do not cover the treated skin with bandages or coverings. Wash your hands after applying Tacrolimus ointment unless your hands are also being treated. Before applying Tacrolimus ointment after bathing, ensure your skin is completely dry. Adults (16 years and above): Two strengths of Tacrolimus ointment are available (0.03% and 0.1%) for adult patients (16 years and above). Your doctor will decide the best strength for you. Usually, treatment starts with 0.1% twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening, until eczema disappears. Depending on the eczema response, your doctor will decide whether to reduce the frequency or use 0.03%. Treat each affected area until the eczema clears. Improvement usually appears within one week. If no improvement is seen after two weeks, consult your doctor about other possible treatments. Your doctor may advise using Tacrolimus ointment twice weekly once atopic dermatitis is cleared or almost cleared (0.03% for children and 0.1% for adults). The ointment should be applied twice a week (e.g., Monday and Thursday) to typically affected areas. There should be 2-3 days without treatment between applications.
