Product description

Product description: Champix is used for smoking cessation in adults. Usage instructions: The recommended dose is 1 mg of varenicline twice daily after a one-week titration as follows: Days 1-3: 0.5 mg once daily, Days 4-7: 0.5 mg twice daily, Day 8 (end of treatment): 1 mg twice daily. The patient should schedule a quit date. Champix doses should usually start 1-2 weeks before this date. Patients should be treated with Champix for 12 weeks. Warnings and precautions: Hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the excipients. Clinical signs include swelling of the face and mouth (tongue, lips, gums) and neck (throat, larynx), and extremities. Smoking cessation effect: Physiological changes resulting from quitting smoking, with or without treatment with Champix, may alter the pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics of some medications, which may require dose adjustment (examples include theophylline, warfarin, insulin). Neuropsychiatric symptoms: Suicidal thoughts and behaviors and suicide attempts have been reported in patients trying to quit smoking using Champix in post-marketing experience. Depressed mood, rarely including suicide attempts, may be a symptom of nicotine withdrawal. Champix should be used with caution in patients with a history of seizures or other conditions that may lower the seizure threshold. Discontinuation of treatment: At the end of therapy, stopping Champix has been associated with increased irritability, desire to smoke, depression, and/or insomnia in up to 3% of patients. Cardiovascular events: Inform your doctor of new or worsening cardiovascular symptoms. Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Pregnancy: Moderate data from pregnant women indicate no teratogenicity or fetal/neonatal toxicity of varenicline. Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity. As a precaution, it is preferable to avoid using varenicline during pregnancy. Breastfeeding: It is unknown whether varenicline is excreted in human breast milk. Animal studies suggest that varenicline is excreted in breast milk. The decision to continue or stop breastfeeding or to continue or stop Champix treatment should consider the benefits of breastfeeding for the baby and the benefits of Champix treatment for the woman. Patients with kidney impairment: Dose adjustment is not necessary for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment. For patients with severe renal impairment, the recommended dose of Champix is 1 mg once daily. The dose should start with 0.5 mg once daily during the first three days, then increase to 1 mg once daily. Based on limited clinical experience with Champix in patients with end-stage kidney disease, treatment is not recommended in this group. Patients with liver impairment: Dose adjustment is not necessary for patients with cirrhosis. Children: The safety of Champix has not yet been established in children or adolescents under 18 years.
