The hardships of choosing

Kavata escapes from her husband Ngugi and her small family to her cousin outside the country. Ngugi, whom she met at university and loved for defending her against students who always mocked her for her wealthy father's corruption and embezzlement of public money. But her husband has not remained the same since they married; her father wrapped his hands around him and began to secretly lead him into his world until he fell into the trap without knowing. Problems between the spouses started and reached their peak when Ngugi told his wife of his intention to run for parliament with his father's support. Kavata then threatened her husband with abandonment and hid their daughter's affiliation with a rival party. The novel discusses the course of the presidential elections in Kenya and the accompanying violence, highlighting the civil war and the massive destruction that occurred in the 2007 elections, through Kavata's efforts to preserve her home and family amidst the chaos of violence sweeping the country.
