Brief about the book: About Bin Al-Haddad Al-Masri he said: "I went out on a full moon night to the grave of Ahmed bin Hanbal may Allah have mercy on him, and I saw from afar a man standing facing the Qibla. So I approached him without him knowing, and it was Al-Hussein bin Mansour, and he was crying and saying: 'Oh you who intoxicated me with love, and bewildered me in the fields of his proximity, you are the unique with the step, and the solitary with standing on the seat of truth, your standing with justice not moderation, and your distance with isolation not seclusion, and your presence with knowledge not transition, and your absence with concealment not departure. Nothing is above you to overshadow you, and nothing beneath you to burden you. Nothing in front of you to find you, and nothing behind you to reach you. I ask you, by the sanctity of this accepted earth and the ranks accountable, not to send me back after you have snatched me from myself, nor to show me myself after you have hidden it from me. And most of my enemies are in your lands, and those who are standing to kill me are among your servants.' When he sensed me, he turned and laughed in my face and went back and said to me: 'O Abu al-Hassan, this is the first station of the seekers,' and she said in astonishment: 'What do you say, O sheikh? If this is the first station, then who is above that?' He said: 'You lied, this is the first station of the Muslims, no, rather, you lied, this is the first station of the disbelievers.' Then he shouted three times, collapsed, and blood flowed from his throat. He signaled to me with his palm to go, so I went and left him. When I woke up, I saw him in Al-Mansour Mosque, and he took my hand and turned me to a corner, and he said: 'By Allah, do not tell anyone what you saw from me last night.'"
This is among the stories of Al-Hallaj that are gathered between the pages of this book. Stories that seize the hearts and elevate souls to the heights of the young among God's righteous servants, who had on the paths of the wayfarers a journey of spirits that loved their Creator, so He was close to them, and for creation, free of charge, and for reaching Him and for stability, they had a state of proximity. He unveiled the veils for them to reach a knowledge that other humans did not attain.
Also, in this form of the book "Stories of Al-Hallaj" or "Supplications of Al-Hallaj," there is another book, also by Louis Massignon, which is the story of Hussein Al-Hallaj and the history of Al-Hallaj, taken from the History of Baghdad.
