Sodium gluconate

Description: Sodium gluconate is the equivalent form (salt) of gluconic acid. It is widely used in the cosmetics industry for stabilization purposes. Synonym: D-gluconic acid, monosodium salt. Soluble in water. Properties: Sodium gluconate is a white to brown crystalline powder, granular to fine, practically odorless. It is highly soluble in water, slightly soluble in alcohol, and insoluble in ether. pH value: pH range: 6.5-7.5 (10% solution). Benefits: Stabilizes and protects cosmetics from color change and rancidity of oils and cosmetic butters. Binds metal ions (chelating effect), especially iron and copper, across a wide pH range. Acts as a pH regulator and as a humectant. An alternative to synthetic chelating agents. Usage: Typical usage level 0.1-1.0%. Add to the aqueous phase of the formulation until dissolved.
