The book "Al-Khabar Al-Wahid When Contradicts the Practice of the People of Medina: Study and Application" by Dr. Hassan bin Muhammad Hussein Filmban is a study that discusses the relationship between two foundational evidences, and therefore the research required a thorough independent study of each in two chapters: the first on Al-Khabar Al-Wahid (the single report), and the second on the practice of the people of Medina. Then, it presents the issues that represent this contradiction and what is preferred among them. In the chapter on Al-Khabar Al-Wahid, the study covers its definition, its evidentiary value, and what it indicates of knowledge or certainty. This chapter focuses on the discussions relevant to the research, avoiding theological or speculative discussions. As for the practice of the people of Medina, the study needed to examine several matters, including the stance of the foundational scholars on the practice of the people of Medina, the position of the Malikis, and then the various opinions regarding the practice of the people of Medina based on their historical occurrence. The book "Al-Khabar Al-Wahid When Contradicts the Practice of the People of Medina: Study and Application" reached several conclusions, the most important of which are: - The practice of the people of Medina developed from the time of Imam Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) until the 5th century AH. - If the practice of the people of Medina contradicts authentic reports (news), then the report is to be rejected if it is transmitted. - Similarly, if it is a connected practice from the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs, it is to be rejected. However, there is no connected practice of the people of Medina from the time of the Rightly Guided Caliphs that contradicts a clear authentic Sunnah. - If the practice is based on ijtihad (independent reasoning), then the reports (news) are not to be rejected, as they are not considered proof (according to the most likely opinion), but they are used to prefer one over the other if the reports conflict. Other conclusions were also noted in the research.
