This book sheds light on the dynamic relationship that connects religion with the street, as depicted by modern Arabic literature. The book raises important questions about the gap that separates the Arab intellectual from the general public. Although the book is based primarily on a sociological approach, the author adopted a careful and detailed reading of a number of narrative and poetic texts, thus demonstrating renewal in analysis on one hand, and the importance of intersecting studies on the other. Perhaps no book has previously been published with such richness and diversity in observing the features of the rupture between the elite and the public, and while exploring the causes of this, it also interprets the gap that allowed Salafi currents and fragile echoes to re-emerge at the expense of the renaissance thought. The text as a whole represents a survey of the intertwined relationship between knowledge production and space production.
