antibacterial class of drugs.

Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid Mechanism of Action

Penicillin kills bacteria by binding its beta-lactam ring to transpeptidase, the enzyme that makes up the bacterial cell wall, preventing cell wall formation. Without a cell wall, the bacterial cell is vulnerable to external water and molecular pressure, leading to bacterial death.

Amoxicillin is similar to penicillin in its bactericidal action.

Clavulanic acid belongs to a class of medications called beta-lactamase inhibitors, an enzyme produced by bacteria to destroy certain antibiotics. It works by preventing bacteria from destroying amoxicillin.

Follow all instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist.

You can give/take amoxicillin before or after food. Space the doses as evenly as possible throughout the day.

Doses may vary between patients depending on the severity and type of infection.

Doses may be changed in special circumstances, so always follow the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take more medicine than you should, talk to your doctor or go to the hospital immediately.

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose.

Do not take a double dose (two doses at the same time) to make up for a missed dose.
