Product Description:

• Secnidazole is used to treat vaginal infections (vaginitis) caused by bacteria in adult women and trichomoniasis (infection of the reproductive organs in men or women caused by protozoa).
• Antiparasitic drug of the nitroimidazole series. Its activity affects Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Trichomonas vaginalis and Gardnerella vaginalis.
• Treatment of intestinal amebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, chronic amebiasis, hepatic amebiasis, intestinal amebiasis (acute, asymptomatic), urethritis and vaginitis caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, nonspecific vaginitis or bacterial vaginosis.
• It works by killing bacteria or preventing their growth.

Directions for use:

• Secnidazole tablet should be taken orally.

The dosage schedule for Secnidazole tablet is given below:

Amoebiasis:

Acute intestinal amoebiasis:

Adults:

• Single dose 2 g (2x1000 mg tablets) preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children:

• 30 mg/kg as a single dose, preferably immediately before meals.

Asymptomatic amoebiasis (microscopic and cystic form):

Adults :

• 2 g once daily (2x1000 mg tablets) for 3 days only, preferably taken just before a meal.

children:

• 30 mg/kg once daily for 3 days only, preferably taken just before a meal.

Hepatic amoebiasis:

Adults:

• 50 g/day in a single or divided dose immediately before meals for 5 days.

children:

• 30 mg/kg/day in a single or divided dose immediately before meals for 5 days.

Note: Pus drainage should be performed in conjunction with secnidazole therapy in the suppurative stage of hepatic amebiasis.

Giardiasis:

Adults:

• Single dose 2 gm 2 tablets x 1000 mg preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children:

• 35-50 mg/kg as a single dose, preferably immediately before meals.

Trichomoniasis:

Adults :

• Single dose 2 g (2x1000 mg tablets) preferably taken immediately before a meal.

children :

• 30 mg/kg as a single dose, preferably immediately before meals.

The partner should receive the same treatment at the same time.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Secnidazole is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to imidazole derivatives.
• Store in a cool, dry place, away from heat.
