Methods of Action of Paracetamol, Chlorpheniramine, and Pseudoephedrine

Paracetamol acts on the hypothalamus to produce a fever-reducing effect. Fever develops when the hypothalamus is set at a higher than normal temperature.

Paracetamol may also work by inhibiting the generation of pain impulses; it also inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins in the central nervous system (pain reliever).

Chlorpheniramine is a first-generation sedating antihistamine.

It is an H1-receptor antagonist. It competes for H1 receptor sites on target cells in the respiratory, blood vessel, and gastrointestinal tracts.

Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant used to relieve nasal congestion caused by allergies or colds.

Pseudoephedrine causes the blood vessels in the nasal passages to constrict (vasoconstrict).

Vasoconstriction reduces nasal congestion by preventing fluid from draining from the blood vessels into the nasal passages.
