• Pantofen 40 mg tablet belongs to a class of medicines known as proton pump inhibitors, which reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces. It treats gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (overproduction of acid due to a pancreatic tumor), duodenal ulcers, stomach ulcers and ulcers associated with Crohn's disease.

• Pantol 40 mg tablet helps reduce stomach acid by blocking the action of an enzyme (H+/K+ ATPase or gastric proton pump). This proton pump is found in the cells of the stomach wall and is responsible for releasing the secretion of stomach acid, damaging the tissues in the food pipe, stomach and duodenum. Pantol 40 mg tablet blocks the release of stomach acid and relieves the symptoms of inflammation of the lining of the food pipe (esophagitis), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), or heartburn.

• Pantol 40 mg tablet may have common side effects such as headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, flatulence, dizziness and joint pain. These side effects are temporary and may disappear after some time. However, if these side effects persist, please contact your doctor.

• Pantol 40 mg tablet is safe for pregnant and lactating mothers but should be taken only after consulting a doctor. Tell your doctor if you have stomach or bowel cancer, liver problems, are allergic to Pantol 40 mg tablet or are going to undergo endoscopy in the future. Taking Pantol 40 mg tablet for a long time may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency and low levels of calcium, magnesium and vitamin D, leading to osteoporosis.
