Mechanism of action of omeprazole

  • The secretion of hydrochloric acid (HCl) into the gastric lumen is a process that is primarily regulated by the H(+)/K(+)-ATPase of the proton pump, which is expressed in large amounts by the parietal cells of the stomach.
  • A proton pump inhibitor that inhibits gastric acid secretion by irreversibly blocking the hydrogen/potassium exchange enzyme system (ATPase that exchanges H+/K+), the "proton pump" in the gastric parietal cell.
  • Omeprazole is a member of a class called "proton pump inhibitors."

Indications for use of Risek 20 mg capsules

  • Duodenal ulcer (an ulcer that forms at the beginning of the small intestine)
  • Eradicating Helicobacter pylori (which can live in your intestines and cause ulcers) to prevent recurrence of duodenal ulcers
  • Benign stomach ulcer (a noncancerous ulcer that forms in your stomach)
  • NSAID-associated ulcer (an ulcer that forms in your intestines due to overuse of NSAIDs)
  • Acid reflux (also known as “heartburn”): Acid backs up from the stomach into the esophagus (the “food pipe”) which can become inflamed and painful. This can cause symptoms such as chest pain that rises up into the throat (heartburn) and a sour taste in the mouth (acid reflux).
  • Erosive esophagitis (acid irritation of the esophagus): Inflammation that can damage tissue in the esophagus, the muscular tube that carries food from your mouth to your stomach. Esophagitis can cause difficulty swallowing and chest pain.
  • Hypersecretory conditions (problems in the intestines that cause excessive acid production)

How to take Risek 20 mg capsules

  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
  • If you are not sure, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
