Mechanism of action of diclofenac
- Diclofenac belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) which work by:
- Inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and COX-2, and thus inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis
- It may also inhibit neutrophil aggregation/activation, prevent chemotaxis, reduce pro-inflammatory cytokine levels, and alter lymphocyte activity.
Therapeutic uses of Rofenac gel
- Muscle and joint injuries (eg sprains, strains, bruises, back pain, sports injuries)
- Tendonitis: Tendonitis occurs when a tendon becomes swollen (inflamed) after an injury to the tendon. It can cause joint pain and stiffness and affect how the tendon moves. (For example, tennis elbow)
