Cefixime can predispose to the risk of encephalopathy (which may include seizures, confusion, decreased consciousness, and movement disorders), especially in case of overdose or renal impairment. Cefixime may cause acute renal failure. A false positive urine glucose test may occur with Benedict or Fehling solutions or copper sulfate test strips, but not with glucose oxidase-based tests. A false positive direct Coombs test has been reported during treatment with cephalosporin antibiotics, so it should be known that a positive Coombs test may be due to the medication.
