Antiparasitic from the nitroimidazole series. Its activity affects Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Trichomonas vaginalis, and Gardnerella vaginalis. Treatment of intestinal amebiasis, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, chronic amebiasis, hepatic amebiasis, intestinal amebiasis (acute, asymptomatic), urethritis and vaginitis caused by trichomonas, non-specific vaginitis or bacterial vaginosis. Children: 30 mg/kg once daily for only 3 days, preferably before a meal. Hepatic amebiasis: Adults: 50 grams per day in a single dose or divided dose, taken just before a meal, for 5 days. Note: Pus drainage should be performed concurrently with Secnidazole treatment during the suppurative phase of hepatic amebiasis.
