Madinah Ajwa

Nearly black and less sweet, with dark fruit and a hint of cocoa.

Ajwa is the date of Madinah. It is darker and less sweet than most dates, with soft flesh and flavours of dark fruit and cocoa, a little like a prune. If you find most dates too sweet, start here.

How to enjoy it

With gahwa, a light Arabic coffee with cardamom, or with a square of dark chocolate.

Storage

Keep in an airtight box in the fridge. Take the dates out about 30 minutes before eating.
