Scientific name: Leucanthemum × superbum
Also known as: Shasta Daisy
A perennial plant similar to meadow chamomile but with larger flowers, exceeding 70 cm in height, with dark green rough textured, serrated leaves. It was first produced by the American horticulturist Luther Burbank in 1890 near Mount Shasta, from which it was named. He hybridized several daisies collected from three continents, which earned it the Award of Merit in gardens from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Large Shasta Daisy flower: Its flowers have white petals with a yellow center, and are distinguished by their larger size compared to other daisy types.
Large Shasta Daisy seeds: Small elongated dark-colored seeds, slightly larger than meadow daisy seeds.
Growing season for large Shasta Daisy: It is planted at the end of spring, and can also be cultivated year-round in temperate regions, agricultural reserves, enclosed or plastic-covered areas where temperature can be controlled, and where there is sufficient light for the plant.
Suitable climate and soil for large Shasta Daisy: It thrives under full sun in temperate areas, does not tolerate frost or extreme heat. It is planted in fertile, well-drained soil.
Method of cultivating large Shasta Daisy: Propagated by seeds planted at a depth of no more than 1 cm from the soil surface, and can be fertilized with organic fertilizer at least once.
