Due to this importance, a group of scholars arose to uncover the narrators of the Sunnah and distinguish the authentic from the fabricated, thus establishing the science of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil. This science is based on an extensive study of the conditions of the narrators, investigating their inclinations, characteristics, morals, upbringing, and beliefs. The scholars of this field exerted great effort, including fatigue, long travel, and numerous journeys. In their study of the narrators' conditions, they maintained utmost impartiality and objectivity, unaffected by kinship ties, friendships, or shared hometowns or sects. When a scholar completes his study of a hadith, he assigns each narrator a symbol indicating his conclusion, such as: trustworthy, just, weak in narration, his hadith is acceptable, or that he is a liar, or poor memory, or that he has become weak in memory due to old age. Through this rigorous, sincere, and unbiased study, combined with piety, sincerity to Allah, and a strong desire to purify the authentic Sunnah from any contamination, scholars of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil have been able to distinguish the correct Sunnah from the fabricated, and to counter the plots of enemies of Islam who aimed to destroy it by undermining the Sunnah, casting doubt on it, and diverting Muslims from it. The study includes 907 terms of al-jarh wa al-ta'dil and the terminology of the imams, arranged alphabetically by the researcher.
