We had an unforgettable enjoyable experience last year with this exceptional harvest, which has become an icon for Swell Roastery. It comes from an altitude of up to 1900 meters above sea level, in a fertile and ideal land for growing coffee cherries in Uganda, specifically in Kinja Kianza district. The story of Mananasi begins when the “Great Lex Coffee” team conducted a unique social experiment worth telling, as the team decided to work diligently to improve the quality of coffee from an area known for producing low-quality Arabica coffee at a cheap price compared to similar regions in Uganda. They aimed to develop a special program to train farmers, where the trained team takes the lead in establishing farms with a leadership role in the community, providing intensive and in-depth training courses in agricultural engineering, processing methods, and harvesting. Then, 35 small farmers are appointed for each leading farm. These small groups are rewarded financially based on their unit, so the higher the coffee quality, the higher the group's wages. The lead farmer receives an additional reward for the doubled training he provides to his colleagues as an incentive and assurance of the knowledge he effectively transfers during training. The Red Cherry Program is the next phase of quality improvement, gradually ongoing over recent years. This program primarily focuses on quality first and foremost by guiding farmers to pick only ripe cherries. Subsequently, the coffee is dried on raised beds, and once fully dried, it is sent to the processing station to remove any potential defects, ensuring a clean and clear cup of coffee.
