In the introduction written by the translator Farouk Abdel Qader, it is mentioned that it is a play performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966 as part of live theater experiments, through which Peter Brook presented a condemnation of the Vietnam War and depicted the horrors of wars. It was written in the introduction published with the play script: "That the war in Vietnam creates a more powerful, intense, and urgent situation than any drama has been able to express."
