The luminous gifts

The writer said there was no book for the people of Yemen in biographical dictionaries similar to Ibn Khalkan's book in terms of arrangement by alphabet; until King Al-Afdal Al-Abbas bin Ali Al-Ghasani Al-Rasuli (778 AH) came and authored this book, and Al-Khuzaji said about him: "King Al-Afdal was a noble high-minded king, strong and brave, decisive, alert, intelligent, and a knowledgeable jurist and prophet, knowledgeable in jurisprudence, grammar, language, genealogy, and history." And he documented in his book the period of the spread of the Shafi'i school of thought in Yemen in the 4th Islamic century, up to the time of Yahya bin Abi Al-Khair Al-Umari.
