Product description
Issued by the "Tarjuman" series at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies, a book titled "The Political Development of Syria under the Mandate," which is the Arabic translation by Suleiman Riachi of Edmond Rabat's French book "L’évolution politique de la Syrie sous mandat de 1920 à 1925." It aims to clarify the political work of the occupying French mandate power in Syria, and the social and political issues that always emerged and were waiting for a radical solution. Therefore, it was necessary to understand the social and political system under which Syria lived for centuries, and the attempts made by leaders before World War I to modernize the crumbling foundations of the Ottoman system according to Western perceptions; as the sectarian system and the Ottoman administrative system are products of the past, and they hinder Syria's future-making. The book (six chapters in 356 pages in medium size, documented and indexed) also discusses the administrative organizations in Greater Lebanon, the courts, and the fragmented justice and its impact on identity and national belonging.
