The author Herbert Bretske was a medical officer in the German forces operating in Egypt at the end of World War II 1944-1945. His adventure in the East begins as a prisoner in British camps, then he escapes and lives with the Atiba tribe in Egypt, learns Arabic, and lives like any Arab person and practices his profession as a doctor. Then, upon his arrival in Egypt, he entered a new stage of adventures, pursuits, and exciting dangers. He found himself in Palestine as a doctor in the Rescue Army during its war against the Zionist gangs, during the British withdrawal and the Nakba. He narrated important events about this, which are more valuable as he was an eyewitness on the Yafa front. Then he tells about his travel to Hofuf and his stay there, and afterward he returned to his homeland Berlin after an absence of eight years. He then spent the rest of his life practicing medicine in Lebanon.
