After many years have passed since the first edition of this book was published, the Arab Cultural Center reissues it because the issue of democracy in the Arab world still is, indeed has become more, a fundamental issue in the debate about the Arab society's transition toward another stage necessary for building the renaissance and actively contributing to the construction of world civilization. The statement for democracy in its spirit and content is a cry that reflects the intellectual labor of a writer at the beginning of his career who lived closely the signs of the great crisis of Arab society and its explosion in the mid-seventies. The Lebanese civil war, during which he wrote and in light of its flames, had entered its second year, with no hope of extinguishing. The signs of political disintegration in the Arab region forewarned of real catastrophes that soon materialized with Egypt signing the Camp David Accords, and the exploding oil wealth was preparing for the public liquidation of the Arab popular and national movement, foremost among them the Palestinian resistance. From all sides, black clouds were gathering to darken the sky of the region and the Arab society. The choice of democracy is not an obvious or spontaneous choice; it means adopting and defending the values and model of relations in society, in addition to being a political choice in the way of managing power. It is a choice of the values of freedom above all, provided that this freedom is the regulator of laws of justice and equality under the umbrella of the law.
