Product description

Palies Suruga died while waiting for the publication of his book. Many critics describe his biography "The Forest of the Gods" as one of the living indictments that stood against European ideologies in the twentieth century, as it documents a terrible period of Nazi occupation of Lithuania and a bleak period of Stalinist repression that prevented Palies Suruga and his fellow Lithuanian writers from achieving their simple and fragile dreams. Palies Suruga wrote this work a few months after leaving the Stutthof camp, but the Soviet authorities at that time confiscated the book and banned it, and the book itself experienced imprisonment. But in the end, it was published in 1957, ten years after its author's death. This book has been translated into more than ten languages and was adapted into a film in 2005.
