In an unspecified city, the specter of civil war looms on the horizon, two lovers, Saeed and Nadia, plan to escape through hidden doors that magically lead them westward. And so begins a long, perilous journey through a world divided between darkness and light, rich and poor, "son of the land" and refugee.
The novel is not a traditional love story, even though its first pages may suggest that, but its main theme is migration, asylum, and traveling between countries fleeing with life from a city on the brink of a comprehensive civil war, and seeking a safe, decent life in other distant cities in the West, specifically where stability prevails, peace reigns, and the sounds of armed conflicts fade.
