Futures studies science

Introduction: The main function of the science of the future lies in improving human life and facilitating it, and working on developing what achieves that. Under this umbrella, methods and mechanisms are included, among which the field of futures studies is present, which humanity always seeks to anticipate by foresight and discovery. The issue of the future is confusing and not flexible for reading, analysis, and interpretation, as the future is essentially what humans create. However, this creation may lead to unseen results, and here crises and problems occur. Here also the role of futures science, which specializes in reading human movement and what it produces of innovations, machines, organizations, and countless details, is present. This includes awareness of the main obstacles of futures science, when we realize that it is not confined within the borders of a specific country or a particular people. Today, the world is interconnected, and what happens in one place will have an impact on other places, and the COVID-19 pandemic is not far from this. In this issue of the Arab Magazine, the reader will explore diverse and rich visions about the field of futures studies. However, the common trend among them leans towards agreement that the current cycle of humanity is experiencing high leaps in the contexts of science and knowledge and their products. This means that a future is being shaped now in a radically different way than what humans knew in previous life cycles. This necessitates intensifying practical efforts to read the future in a way that ensures achieving the hoped-for level of control, while acknowledging the difficulty of this task, which is increasing in complexity and depth every day due to the proliferation, intersection, and interweaving of events across levels of politics, economy, and education, not to mention the virtual world, which today has become the womb from which things are born and the umbrella from which all other things hang. I conclude by referring to research centers in various fields across the Arab world, questioning the possibility of cooperation among them to achieve collaboration, integration, and building upon what has been accomplished.
