Nature

The universe, from a philosophical perspective, consists of nature and the soul. Everything that is separate from us, in the precise sense, and everything that philosophy classifies as not being me, that is, nature and art, and all other humans and my body, must fall under the name of nature. And in counting the values of nature and knowing their total, I will use the word in both senses; in the general sense and the philosophical sense. And lack of precision, in general inquiries like the inquiry we are now posing, is not essential; and it will not cause any confusion in thought. Nature, in the general sense, refers to the substances that humans do not change, like space, air, river, and leaves of trees. And the word art is used to describe the blending of human will with the objects themselves, as in a house, a canal, a statue, and a picture. But human operations collectively are trivial, some cutting, baking, patching, and washing, because they do not change the impression in a vast way like the impression of the world on the human mind.
