Carson McCullers appeared in her novel "Reflections in a Golden Eye" as violent in her depiction of the human self and rejection of it. This novel depicts souls burdened with fragility, weakness, and sadness, completely unable to understand themselves and the world around them. The events of the novel take place in a quiet military barracks, its heroes soldiers without wars, their only wars with themselves and the seas of hatred that throw them toward the abyss. Carson McCullers was able to immortalize herself within the pillars of American literature and its symbols, and her novels still to this day are subject to questioning and discussion by readers and scholars.
This novel was turned into a film in 1967, directed by American director John Huston and starring Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor.
