Product description
This novel is not presented by Qarneh as a traditional growth autobiography, but about the beginnings of breaking, it tells about escape, but it does not promise salvation; and it tells about longing, but it does not promise arrival. It is the story of a young man who sees the world as narrow, and discovers that his narrowness does not end at the borders of a country that has not been named, but its features indicate East Africa, where young Hassan grows up in a troubled family, a tyrannical addicted father, a silent traumatized mother, and a small world suffocated by poverty, repression, and defeated men. But Hassan is not a revolutionary in the romantic sense, he does not possess heroism or clarity of vision. He is simply a young man trying to leave the scene before it swallows him, carrying inside him a fierce desire to escape, to get out of the social prison that has confined his life since childhood. His dream of traveling abroad seems like salvation, but over time it becomes clear that departure does not always liberate... rather, it painfully reveals your fragility.
